Current Research Topics in Learning Disabilities
For which topic were research priorities identified?
In which location was the research priority setting conducted?
North America - USA
Why was it conducted at all?
Although many issues in learning disabilities are in need of research, some are seen by leaders in the field as being more critical than others. Identification of these issues would assist researchers, policymakers, and others interested in developing a research agenda for the future. Additionally, it would be beneficial to determine if the nature of currently published learning disabilities research matches these identified research topics.
What was the objective?
to determine the critical research priorities in learning disabilities and the way in which current research activities address these issues
What was the outcome?
a list of 27 research topics
How long did the research prioritization take?
January 1985 - February 1985
Which methods were used to identify research priorities?
How were the priorities for research identified exactly?
Step 1: literature review: resulting in list of 25 LD research issues. Step 2: survey: participants were asked to select those issues they considered most important.
Which stakeholders took part?
Experts involved in educating learning disabled children and adolescents. Survey: 66 participants.
How were stakeholders recruited?
Surveys were sent by mail to potential respondents.
Were stakeholders actively involved or did they just participate?
Stakeholders were mere participants of the research prioritization process; they were not actively involved in the process.
