This year, the Open Innovation in Science (OIS) Center of the Ludwig Boltzmann Society (LBG) took part in a Case Session at the OIS Research Conference 2025 in Vienna – a platform for international exchange on open and collaborative science.

During the OIS Case Session on the first day of the conference, the Cancer Mission Lab (CML) was presented as an innovative funding instrument. Its goal is not only to enable but actively support inter- and transdisciplinary projects—by encouraging new partnerships and removing structural barriers.
Key questions included: How can funding formats be designed to promote not just innovation but genuine collaboration across disciplinary boundaries? What is needed for new partners to connect and work together on solutions?

What hinders transdisciplinary research?

At the conference dinner, the OIS Center’s strategic realignment was presented. Transdisciplinary collaboration was analyzed from various perspectives and discussed with the conference participants.
