Andrea Schmidt strengthens the OIS Center

The sociologist and expert in digital innovation brings extensive experience from research, practice, and teaching – ranging from innovation projects to science communication.

Andrea Schmidt strengthens the OIS Center

A trained sociologist (University of Vienna), Andrea Schmidt earned her PhD at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, where she worked for many years as a university assistant in research and teaching.

In recent years, she served as Lead for Digital Innovation at Caritas Pflege Wien, where she developed and managed numerous digital transformation and innovation projects. Within international programs—such as Interreg projects in the Danube region—she also established innovation labs, developed new digital solutions, and fostered close collaboration with universities, startups, and social organizations. She brings a broad spectrum of expertise from both research and practice to the Open Innovation in Science Center.

Extensive Teaching Experience

Andrea Schmidt also has extensive teaching experience in innovation and project management at institutions including IMC Krems, FH WKW, Vienna University of Economics and Business, and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

Creative Approaches and Science Communication

At the OIS Center, she now oversees projects that explore innovative and creative approaches to science and research, highlighting new ways to strengthen participation, collaboration, and societal impact.
