On the edge of the Vienna Woods – The Lebensborn in Feichtenbach moves to Hartheim Castle

The “Lebensborn” home in Wienerwald was a maternity hospital in Lower Austria between 1938 and 1945, with the aim of increasing the number of births of children who were considered particularly “valuable” in terms of the racist population policy of the Nazi regime. This topic was examined in the participatory MEMORY LAB project of the LBI for Research on the Consequences of War. The traveling exhibition is now stopping at Hartheim Castle in Alkoven.

In the participatory research project MEMORY LAB, science and civil society are examining the “Lebensborn” home in Wienerwald in Feichtenbach, Lower Austria. Between 1938 and 1945, it served the racist Nazi population policy. A current traveling exhibition by the LBI for Research on the Consequences of War is dedicated to the history of the home. Co-researchers from the MEMORY LAB also have their say in it. A report on the opening in St. Pölten can be found here.

The next exhibition opening with a lecture will take place on March 7, 2025 in the Hartheim Castle Learning and Memorial Site. This will be accompanied by a video presentation with a panel discussion on the docu-dance theater “Prélude:LEBENSBORN” by the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz. At the interface of performing arts, socio-politically relevant theater and research, the Docu-Dance Theater aims to bring together complex biographies and condense them into a performable unit.
