Those who work in science know the problem: convoluted sentences, technical jargon, and convoluted formulations can leave even experts puzzled. Often, entire paragraphs must be read multiple times before they become understandable. However, this doesn’t have to be the case! Especially in external communication, it is crucial to convey complex topics in a way that can be easily understood by non-experts. This requires clear and accessible language.

In this workshop, we will examine the biggest stumbling blocks and learn to discard unnecessary phrases and convoluted word constructions. First, we will approach the concepts of Plain Language and Easy Language from a theoretical perspective. Then, you will develop your own toolkit for creating simple language through practical exercises, transforming incomprehensible “walls of text” into engaging, reader-friendly content.

Note:

  • Please bring a topic from your (professional) everyday life for which you would like to write a short, informative text.
  • Please note that the workshop will be conducted in German.
